La Fermettede Pointe-Saint-Charles
Our activities

From seed to plate.

Shared facilities that reflect what participants want to build, rolled out in phases over the long term.

Local agriculture

Collective gardens

Growing together behind Bâtiment 7, sharing harvests and know-how.

The collective gardens are run by a group of resident members. Growing beds, medicinal plants, permaculture and greening: here we learn by doing, from one season to the next.

There are no individual plots to hand out here: we grow together, in one shared space. No need to wait years for a plot to start gardening. Why a collective model?

  • Group work bees and plantings
  • Workshops and educational visits
  • A brand-new, fully redesigned site in 2027

Henhouse

A flock of laying hens, self-managed by neighbourhood residents.

Daily care, keeping the henhouse clean, collecting eggs: the hen group organizes itself independently, with support from La Fermette. The hens are also a highlight of our educational visits for young people.

Beehives

Urban beekeeping run by volunteers: honey production and research.

The Bâtiment 7 apiary is looked after by a group of passionate volunteers. The honey they harvest proudly carries La Fermette’s label.

Blue-green alley

Sustainable rainwater management for Bâtiment 7, and plant care alongside residents.

Planting, monitoring, community work bees and liaising with the borough: we take care of the blue-green alley and its native plants. It’s also a place for educational visits and citizen science.

The greenhouse

A three-season greenhouse for seedlings, productive crops and experimentation.

Shared with the Club populaire des consommateurs, the greenhouse is home to spring seedlings, summer crops and educational activities.

It’s also where the Club populaire grows the seedlings for all of Pointe-Saint-Charles’s collective gardens: every spring, the greenhouse supplies plants to gardens across the whole neighbourhood.

Rescue, transform, share

Our community kitchen is housed in shipping containers, outdoors.

Here we turn our harvests and food rescued from neighbourhood partners — fruit, surplus, unsold goods, ready-made meals — into affordable dishes. We also do canning and run cooking workshops.

  • Rescuing surplus and unsold food from partners that change with the seasons
  • Transforming: low-cost meals, canning, workshops
  • Sharing: a solidarity grocery, two neighbourhood grocery stores that sell our products, direct sales at the kitchen, a community fridge, local organizations, market stands and BBQs

The Champ de la Pointe

A market garden in the heart of Pointe-Saint-Charles.

On a 0.11-hectare public lot dedicated to urban agriculture, we’re preparing a bio-intensive operation: seedlings, microgreens, fruit and vegetables grown in the greenhouse and in the ground, plus fruit trees and shrubs. The harvests will go back to the community, through local organizations and directly to residents.

  • A new production greenhouse
  • A seedling room and a washing station
  • A job-training and social-integration component
